About
Hi, I'm Rohit. I am an economist working at the intersection of public finance, business taxation, and applied microeconomics. I completed my PhD in International Business Taxation (Economics Track, DIBT) at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) in June 2026, graduating with honors. My research asks a simple but fundamental question: how do taxes and regulation change the economic decisions of firms and individuals?
I use quasi-experimental designs and highly granular pricing micro-data from e-commerce platforms such as Amazon to study how individuals and firms respond to tax policy, and how taxes are transmitted through markets and ultimately reflected in prices. This work also allows me to study platform pricing and the strategic responses of digital firms to changes in the tax and regulatory environment.
Alongside my research on digital markets and taxation, I am building a novel firm-level dataset covering the financial statements of listed Indian firms, assembled from multiple data sources. The aim is to create a rich empirical foundation for studying how firms respond to taxation, regulation, and economic shocks at an unusually detailed level.
My broader interests span tax incidence, tax avoidance, tax planning, public economics, and applied industrial organization. My research is driven by the combination of credible empirical identification and unusually detailed micro-data to uncover mechanisms that are difficult to observe in conventional economic datasets.
